Privacy Policy

This policy describes what we collect when you use RateMyCollegeCounselor, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Account data. When you sign up, we collect your email address and a password (stored hashed by our auth provider). You may set a public username; if you do, it appears next to reviews you post.

Content you submit. Reviews, ratings, counselor submissions, and any other text you post. Reviews are public by design.

Technical data. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps, requested URL) recorded by our hosting provider for security and reliability. Authentication cookies set by our auth provider so you stay logged in.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not run third-party advertising on the Service.

To operate the Service: authenticate you, display your reviews, route requests, and prevent abuse.

To moderate content: investigate reports, enforce our Terms, and remove content that violates them.

To communicate with you about your account, security incidents, or material changes to these policies.

Supabase hosts our database and handles authentication. Your email, hashed password, username, reviews, and ratings are stored there.

Vercel hosts the website and processes server logs.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. We do not share your data with other third parties except as required by law (for example, in response to a valid legal process) or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public.

We use cookies that are strictly necessary to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Anything you post as a review, rating, or counselor submission is public. If you set a username, it is shown alongside your reviews. Treat anything you publish here as it would appear on the open web - search engines and other readers will see it.

You can update your username on your profile page. To request access to the personal data we hold about you, correction of inaccurate data, or deletion of your account and reviews, email ratemycollegecounselor@gmail.com. We honor reasonable requests within 30 days.

If you delete your account, your reviews are removed too. We may retain limited records (for example, server logs or moderation decisions) where required by law or necessary to protect against fraud or abuse.

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, email ratemycollegecounselor@gmail.com and we will delete it.

We use industry-standard measures (encrypted transport, hashed passwords, row-level security on the database) to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure; if we discover a breach affecting you, we will notify you as required by law.

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. If a change is material we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you by email or a notice on the site.
